Sensory Fiddly Quilt with Tar Heel
Fiddly Quilts are small quilts designed for people with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism, etc. Agitation, wandering, fidgeting and restlessness are some of the characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia that are often difficult for the caregiver to manage. The person may be comforted by having something to do with their hands.
Each Fiddly Quilt has a variety of attachments that may call for an action, such as sliding a bead or zipping a zipper or folding a square. Some may even contain a hidden marble tunnel. These actions may help with fine motor skills and may divert attention away from picking at inappropriate things. Each Fiddly Quilt has a variety of textures to address tactile stimulation and colors to address visual stimulation.
The quilts and their parts have been tested to ensure they are machine washable and dryable as the care instructions indicate. Some of the raw edges will fray during laundering for an added tactile stimulation. The sizes, fabric textures, fabric content, attachments, etc., will vary.
